About Tammam
OTR/L, Reg. OT, MRSc., M.Ed., RCC-18782, CCC-11243399
My life has taken me across Bilad al-Sham (the Levant), Europe, and North America, giving me exposure to different cultures and ways of living. I've come to understand a person's mental health, life, and behaviours as best understood when body, mind, and context are considered together — our lives unfold through the interaction of these three.
I work with individuals facing depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, and complex PTSD, supporting them to build psychological resilience and emotional awareness, and to find their way through what they carry rather than around it.
I have particular experience supporting men's mental health across different cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. This includes male survivors of sexual abuse, men living with trauma, depression, and anxiety, and men exploring their sexuality and identity — in a space where that can be approached safely and without judgment. I work with clients to make sense of their experiences and create meaning that serves them.
In my practice, I draw on a range of approaches, with a particular interest in Narrative Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). My clinical interests include acquired brain injury, trauma, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
I also offer couples therapy, helping partners understand and work through what may be straining their relationship, and build a shared story that reflects their values and hopes.
Alongside my counselling practice, I am a Registered Occupational Therapist with over 26 years of experience across acute care, intensive care, and outpatient rehabilitation, with extensive work in complex neurological cases. I hold advanced certifications in neurological rehabilitation, including the A-ONE, Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT), and Neuro-IFRAH approaches. I have served as a faculty lecturer at McGill University's School of Physical and Occupational Therapy, was Chair of the Neurology Practice Network at the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists — BC, and am currently a clinical instructor at UBC's Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy.
Whatever brings you here, my aim is the same: to understand your situation fully and meet you as a whole person. Mental health struggles can be isolating, and recovery grows out of connection — with someone who can understand you and meet you where you are now. Looking up a therapist is a real first step, and it would be my pleasure to get to know you.
